UDS-IS11/PCI
SCSI Controller Card |
| In June 1999 UMAX began to introduce the UDS-IS11/PCI card with their PC-compatible SCSI scanners - this card supercedes the earlier ISA version and first shipped with the Astra 2400S. Although the card is bundled for the purpose of controlling the scanner, used with appropriate drivers it can control other devices, albeit at relatively low speeds. This technical note covers the inital spec of the new card. |

DB25 SCSI connector

The information in this technical note is provided by IMC without warranty or support - UMAX do not support the use of the UDS-IS11/PCI SCSI card in any role other than a dedicated scanner controller, and have not officially documented their OEM sourcing of the UDS-IS11/PCI. |

What is the UDS-IS11/PCI? The UMAX UDS-IS11/PCI is an OEM of Domex's (aka DTC Technology's) DMX-3191D SCSI card. The full drivers for the DMX-3191D card are available from Domex's web site. According to Domex's specifications, the 32-bit PCI card supports SCSI-II, an asynchronous transfer rate of 7MB/sec, synchronous burst transfers of 10MB/sec, and has full driver support for DOS (ASPI), Windows 3.x (ASPI), Windows 95 (MPD) and Windows NT (MPD). The SCSI card uses passive termination and has an external 25-pin D-sub connector. Several other scanner manufacturers OEM the same model of card, rebadging for their own bundles. This PCI SCSI card is NOT suitable for the Apple B&W G3 series. What resources does the card use? The card requires a single free PCI slot and system resources (an IRQ and I/O address range) which are allocated by the PC's Plug & Play device management. As the card includes full Windows 95/98/NT miniport (MPD) drivers (included on the appropriate UMAX scanner CDs), the DMX3191 should be listed in the System control panel, Device Manager:
In the event of a resource conflict (most commonly a
shortage of IRQs, preventing an IRQ being reserved for the card) a "!"
exclamation mark will appear next to the device.
